Steps to Success
Starting yoga can be a daunting prospect. Here are a few steps to help you know what to expect:
Step 1. Before class: don't eat at least one hour before class, longer if you are doing a strenuous style of class, drink plenty of water before, and after class. Bring your own water bottle.
Step 2. Clothing: wear light, comfortable, stretchy clothing, yoga or exercise leggings, t-shirt or comfortable tops. No jeans, no belts, no socks during standing practices.
Step 3. Arrive at least 15 minutes before the class starts – to register, sign a waiver, change and settle down. Ensure that cell phones are turned off upon entering Sundara Yoga. Keep your voices low in the lounge/common area as classes may be in session.
Step 4. Introduce yourself to the teacher before class begins. Let them know about any health concerns you might have and let them know this is your first class. Feel free to ask questions before and after class!
Step 5. Pace yourself and listen to your body. Feeling overheated or dizzy, and need to rest? No worries. Take a deep breath, sit or lay down and take a quick break. We encourage not leaving the room- whenever possible stay on your mat and relax.
Step 6. Be patient. Everyone in the class may be at different levels so allow yourself several classes to get into the flow – remember, the more you practice, the more youʼll benefit from each class.
